The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
of the triology is about a dystopian society in future where the
freedom of people spread over 12 districts are controlled by President
Snow, the chief of Capitol. District 13 was vapourised by Capitol
several yeras ago for an uprise against Capitol. And in rememberance
of that victory against rebels and as punishment to the successors of
the rebels, every year Hunger Games are conducted by Capitol where a
girl and boy from each district is drawn through lottery and all the
candidates are placed in a challenging arena. Only one of the 24
candidates can win the game by surviving the challenges and
eliminating the other candidates.
The story is written in first person from the view point of Katniss
Everdeen, a sixteen year old teen from district 12 who nominated
herself into the games to save her twelve year old little sister
Primrose, whose name was drawn for the games. The boy from district 12
was Peeta Mellark, who had secret crush on Katniss since childhood.
Fate had placed the two teens in hunger games where clearly the death
of one of them is required for the survival of others.
Interesting story, I must say with plenty of action and emotion.
Definitely a good read, I would give it a 3 out of 5.
Let the Hunger Games Begin! :)
Angels & Demons by Dan Brown: My Take
I knew Dan Brown's Da Vinci's Code and Angels and Demons have been quite popular and have also been turned into movies. So I knew I had to read the book and compare it with the movie.
So I downloaded the ebook and with the suspense building up with every turn of page and my ever increasing desire to know how the story ended, it took me about 1.5 days to complete the book.
Several murders including that of a genius scientist and chosen four cardinals, threat of illuminati and vatican church sitting on a timebomb, all placed together properly and we got a splendid suspense novel.
I will give it 4 out of 5 stars.
P.S. - Some people downplayed the book claiming it's far from truth. People it's not history. It's exactly what it's tagged in library, i.e., FICTION. Enjoy it with a steaming cup of coffee!
